I can’t believe Christmas is almost here – I realise I, and everyone else in the world feels exactly the same about this, but it doesn’t stop me being astounded. Another Christmas! As you may have noticed, I’m just a little fond of the festive season, so I don’t have an issue with them coming round so quickly – this will be my 30th Noel! (I’m 30 in June, but as I also had a Christmas when I was 0, I figure my maths is right here…).
If Christmas is sneakily sneaking up on you too, you may be interested in some quick n easy food gift inspiration, which you’ll get in this post in spades! These chocolate covered marshmallows and oreo’s are the cutest, easiest and quickest food gifts I can think of – and they look so impressive and fun to give, especially to kids who would love their bright colours and fun sprinkles.
Not to say that making them is the work of moments – its certainly not as easy as buying a box of chocolates, but the little bit of work that is involved elevates these oreo’s and marshmallows far above any regular ones. Plus, its fun! Stick on some Christmas music, pour yourself a glass of mulled wine, and get dipping!
I’m going to give you guidelines more than quantities for these gifts, as its very much a case of ‘keep going until you run out of chocolate’ rather than very precise measurements.
Chocolate Covered Marshmallows
You’ll need
- Hard straws (like these ones) to spear your marshmallows
- Presentation bags
- Pretty ribbon
- Marshmallows – I used a combination of regular sized and jumbo ones
- White Chocolate – at least 200g to give a good amount for dipping! You could also use milk or dark if you prefer, or even mix it up with a flavoured chocolate
- Sprinkles and glitter
First, melt your chocolate in 30 second blasts in the microwave – in a mug or jug works best. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper and then start to spear your marshmallows with the straws, pushing them about two thirds of the way through. Dip each marshmallow into the chocolate, and then remove and let excess chocolate drip off, tapping lightly on the edge of the mug.
Drop on a few sprinkles, and then pop your marshmallow down to dry. White chocolate seems to dry fairly quickly so its safe to put your straw right way up into a jar or cake pop stand, whereas milk chocolate is a bit more drippy – if that’s the case, you could either let it drip and add your sprinkles when the chocolate is tacky, or simply place them top side down.
Once dry, gather a bunch of marshmallows and pop them into a presentation bag, tying some ribbon around the straws to secure.
They will keep for up to a week, so you can make them ahead of time.
Chocolate Covered Oreo’s
You’ll need
- Lolly or cake pop sticks
- 2 packets or Oreo’s – double stuff are extra tasty if you can find them!
- Chocolate – I used a mixture of white, dark, and red and green candy melts – use whatever you prefer
- Sprinkles and glitter
- Presentation bags
- Pretty ribbon
First, prepare a baking sheet covered with parchment papers and gather your Oreo’s, lolly or cake pop sticks, and melt about 75g of chocolate. To make your chocolate covered Oreo’s, simply twist open your Oreo, and then use a teaspoon to pop a smear (about half a tsp) of melted chocolate onto the Oreo (it doesn’t matter which side). Smush your lolly or cake pop stick in the chocolate, making sure both sides are coated, and then firmly but carefully sandwich the other half back on. Leave to dry for at least 25 minutes.
A certain amount of Oreo’s will break as you twist them open, so you’ll just have to recycle these ones into your mouth.
Once the Oreo’s are set, melt more chocolate and use the stick to dip them in the same way as with the marshmallows. Apply Christmas sprinkles and glitter, and then pop down onto the baking sheet to set before wrapping in a presentation bag.
Again, you can keep these for up to a week – and they really are delicious! I’m not particularly keen on Oreo’s in their ‘raw’ state but I couldn’t stop eating these!

So great! I’ve never made a homemade gift for anyone before. I’m usually not a great baker but I think these would’ve be somewhat easy to throw together for a holiday gift 🙂
