The Great Wedding Bake-Off!

June 11, 2014 By Kerry Cooks 10 Comments

As you may know, I’m getting married on 21 June (Oh, have I mentioned it!? Well, perhaps just once or twice!). I thought it would be fun to have a wedding bake-off – we do have a wedding cake – three tiers of chocolate, lemon and RAINBOW baked by the talented Liana of Swirls Bakery, but hey, you can never have too much cake right?!

The general idea is that people (only a few friends in all liklihood, as lots of our relatives will be travelling quite a way to attend the wedding) bake a cake or other baked good and drop it off at the village hall on the morning of the wedding. My friends are a crafty lot!

So the next question is whether I should even attempt to bake something… I’m already baking 200 wedding favours (a cookie and coconut macaroon for each of our guests!) but somehow I still think it might be feasible… that is, if I find something that can be made in advance and possibly frozen. I definitely don’t need the stress of trying to bake and ice a cake the day before!

But if the world were my oyster, here’s what I’d be tempted to bake!

  1. Strawberry Cupcakes – so summery and gorgeous! These Strawberry Milkshake Cupcakes that I made a couple of years ago are still an all time favourite!
  2. Chocolate Cake – the classic! And I’m sure anything chocolate would probably go first
  3. Pastel Ruffle Cake – this is beyond my current skill level but it’s oh so pretty!

Realistically, if I do make anything it would have to make super low maintenance… possibly homemade Peanut Butter Cups? But I’ll see how my stress levels are doing a couple of days before the wedding!

Have you ever entered a bake-off? What did you bake?

Oh my goodness, Kerry! This is a genius idea for a wedding! Imagine all those cakes! I cannot wait to see your wedding pictures. The fact that you are entering it yourself…impressed! Go for something un-stressful!

Great photos on here today – good god i love those ruffle effect cakes!
We’re planning on making our own wedding cake – so that’ll have to involve some working out how to do most ahead of time !!
Keep us posted if you decide to! And enjoy the next few weeks πŸ™‚

Thanks Holly – love the ruffle effect! I didn’t even realise you could do it with fondant. Have you tried it?

Hmm potentially – three layers – all different – i’ve seen some that are like gold foiled i like… or those ones with like big icing wafers stuck on to the side…
        we’ll see though!
I haven’t tried the ruffle – i’d use poshed up buttercream – looks gorgeous though!
