Making 2012 the best year ever!

December 31, 2011 By Kerry Cooks 5 Comments

I’m firmly of the belief that next year (I’m calling it twelve) will be the best year ever. I think that life is what you make it and if you set out to make it great, it can be! Its not just about making new years resolutions that will improve things, its about attitude too. So here are my top tips!

Have a little think about what it is you really want to achieve in 2012 – whats important to you? Is it progressing at work, strengthening the bonds of your relationships, getting fit and healthy or something else entirely? Chances are if its not really important to you, your resolution will fall flat. You have to be really motivated to succeed.

Once you’ve decided what you want to accomplish, break it down into smaller steps. For example if you want to get fit, start by thinking about what kinds of exercise will work best with your lifestyles and schedule, decide how often you want to exercise (without setting yourself up for failure by saying you’ll do it every single day) and then create a workout and meal plan to help you achieve your goal. If you’re completely new to your new way of life, you may need to do some research – the internet and blogs are a great help – for example Beth chronicaled her amazing weight loss over at her blog Beth’s Journey.

Take it a week at a time and when you accomplish your goals for that week, reward yourself in some way. Try to reward yourself in a postive way though – for example if you’re trying to lose weight then rewarding yourself with food may not be the best idea! Instead, buy yourself something new to wear or go for a lovely trip to the cinema.

Track your progress and help yourself to stay on track in low moments by writing down a list of reasons WHY you want to achieve your goal and keeping it somewhere you’ll see it every day to help you stay motivated. Another thing that you can do to help yourself stay on track is to make yourself accountable by telling people about your goal. If you keep it a secret, other people can’t support and help you to achieve your goal!

So what am I resolving to change in 2012? Well, a few things. The main things that I want to accomplish are to get fitter, and to become more adept at crafty-ness and sewing.

Good luck with your resolutions! Oh, and Happy New Year!!
