Happy Friday, friends! How is your week going so far? The weekend is almost here – do you have any plans?
Last weekend we had a pretty quiet one – I baked some Creme Egg cookies. What do you think?!
The rest of the weekend was spent mainly relaxing (and in the gym!) since things have been pretty busy around here lately. Our kitten Bella has started going outside (some of the time – she still seems to small even though she’s almost a year old!) so she now has a tag. Right now it looks comically big on her but hopefully she’ll grow into it. We joked that it should say BELLA!!! rather than Bella as she is always exclaiming and yelling wherever she goes!
This week, Bella’s tongue got stuck outside of her body (see below!). Sometimes this happens to cats – they’ll be grooming themselves and then just kind of forget that their tongue is still out. It’s absolutely BRILLIANT. AND she decided that the buttons (or whatever those gathered bits on a mattress are called?) were evil and tried attacking them!
This week I also ordered some more kitty earrings from Hello Sunshine after I lost one of mine. Her jewellery is so pretty – check it out.
This week I also popped into Primark to look for some sunglasses – the sun is so bright when I’m cycling home! I also ended up with a weekend bag and some new shoes… I’m in LOVE with them! They were only Β£10.
On Wednesday we held our Women’s Institute meeting – I’m a member of the Nottingham City WI. I headed to Das Kino first for pizza and cocktails with a friend! These french martinis were incredibly dangerous – they barely tasted alcoholic at all!
At WI we had a session from a talented local make up artist who helped us solve our makeup issues and answered our questions about the best products to use! She particularly recommended Elf foundations, and using a thick brush to apply gel eyeliner…interesting!
Sadly Nottingham WI hasn’t got enough members at the moment so we had an appeal for more and got a few along. The April meeting will be the test of whether it can continue. By the way, I was also in the paper and on the radio in the last week too! I was talking about the new WI cookbook in the paper, and talking about it on the radio too, but also baking, my blog and lots of other stuff! If you want to listen, go to 1.40 and you’ll be able to hear me babbling away!
Needless to say, the experience of listening to myself on the radio was incredibly surreal! I sounded only about 50% like I thought I sounded like, and somehow sounded simultaneously posh and like I had an accent I’m not aware of!
Don’t tell the police, but on Wednesday night we did a bit of light breaking and entering – all for the greater good of course! For the past couple of weeks there’s been a mysterious (and awful and piercing) beeping noise on our street – but intermittently – not constant (but through nights). Last night I couldn’t take it anymore and so we got out of bed and went out at 11.30 to try to find the source. Lee quickly worked out the garden it was coming from and we could see a rubbish bin full of rubbish in the garden of a vacant house. The bloody idiot former owners had chucked a smoke alarm away! So I climbed over the (6 foot) fence in my pjs, got the thing and then smashed it to bits! It felt soooooo good!
- Currently watching: We just finished House of Cards season 3 – have you been watching? No spoilers here, but it’s an amazing show
- Currently reading: I just finished Elizabeth is Missing and it broke my heart. It’s a brilliant book but I’m not sure I could recommend it to anyone! It’s great if you want a real perspective on what it’s like to suffer with dementia, but very sad.
- Currently listening to: Still nothing other than the radio really! I think I need to completely wipe my iTunes and start again!
This weekend, I’m going to visit my parents to spend some time with my mum for mother’s day – we’re going for afternoon tea! What are you up to?
x Kerry

Looks like you had a great week π Marty and I made a homemade pizza from Whole Foods tonight (we get a plain crust from the prepared foods area and then add our own sauce + toppings at home.) Tomorrow I’m headed to my aunts house for a board game day with some of my family members. Pretty mellow weekend around here…

Thanks Di! Ooh I so wish we had a whole foods near us! Hope you enjoy your board games weekend! x
Love those shoes! Might have to pop to Primark after work.
I hope you get some new recruits for the WI. It would never have occurred to me that the WI was for young women – in my brain, it’s an old lady thing! I’d be interested in hearing more about what it’s really like – have you blogged much about it before?

Thanks Georgina! I have here https://kerrycooks.wordpress.com/2011/05/27/how-i-became-a-24-year-old-member-of-the-womens-institute-and-why-you-should-too/
Really it’s just all about friendships and having fun with fellow ladies! All our members are between 20 – 40 and are a great bunch of people!
I hope you get some new members for the WI. I think everyone is shocked at how they sound in a recording
Happy Friday to you too π my Weekend plans are actually to come to Nottingham to visit my sis and her partner. It’s her birthday this week so we are celebrating that as well as mothers day π
Sad to hear you need more WI members. I wish the one run here was as young and fun as your one!! Have you tried advertising at the unis? I only found about about it in final year but would have joined sooner!
Also LOVE that you smashed that fire alarm up. Sometimes it’s just gotta be done. We have had an abandoned car outside our flat for 6 months and as it’s taxed and MOT’d neither the council nor the police will touch it. Some of the residents in our block are trying to find a way to get it removed for good! We need the parking spaces!
Anyway. Sounds like you had a fab week. I hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day too!
