Happy Friday!!
How’s your week been? It’s the last day of January, hurrah! Goodbye, worst month of the year!
This week I’ve been focusing more on planning for our wedding and honeymoon in June, in a few different ways. I’ve embarked on a new skincare regime to hopefully get my skin glowing. I purchased the No7 cleansing brush, which is a dupe of the popular Clarisonic. The reviews are excellent and I’m hoping it really will lead to radiant skin! I also splurged on an exfoliator and a new cleanser – again, the reviews are so good, I’m thinking they must work! Everything was on 3 for 2, and the exfoliator is definitely great for a deep clean – the little particles are really what’s used in micro dermabrasion and they’re so abrasive, you actually have to be careful!
We’ve also been planning our honeymoon route – we’re doing 7 days in New York, three in Boston, and four in New England!
I also enjoyed a delicious thai red curry with Quorn chicken pieces and coconut, yum!
Onto the naughtier bits! I went to a party to celebrate Australia day at a friends house (and managed to take zero photos! I’m working on that, promise!) so I made some Lamington’s, and some chocolate bark to take along. The bark was INSANE! I’ll be sharing the recipe for valentine’s soon! I promise it would turn unrequited love requited!
The weather this week has been wild, wet and windy! Here we have my charming hairstyle post rainy cycle home – I look like I’ve been dragged through a bush! And on Thursday, it even snowed a little!
What are you up to this weekend? Please share any tips for must-sees in New York, Boston and New England with me!

Our cat count is slightly unexpectedly going from 1 to 3 today, so I think I’ll invest in one of these towers as well, it’s amazing (our current one is really only a 1 cat model)!
As for New York, we did this walking tour Christmas before last, it was so good!

We got it through Groupon, so it was very cheap. Despite the fact that we did it on the only day it rained during our visit, it was still brilliant. Our guide, Mallory, was so energetic and she had some quirky little information to give us, as well as the obviously fabulous setting of the West Village (Carry Bradshaw’s stoop, anyone?). A special mention to Milk&Cookies for the chocolate chip cookie with sea salt. We got to taste some incredible treats during the couple of hours, highly recommend it! The tour starts at Union Square, make sure you also visit the big DSW there for some seriously cheap shoes! Trader Joe’s is only a block away as well, they have some tasty food (I love foreign supermarkets for random ingredients!).
I think I asked on Facebook as well, do you know what area you’ll be staying in? It’ll be easier to give recommendations, I don’t want to send you miles out of your way! My favourite area to stay is the Upper West Side, as its quiet and close to the park, but you can get to Midtown quickly on the express Subway.
Wow! Cupcake tour, awesome! There will be A LOT of cake eaten on this honeymoon!
We’re thinking of staying on brooklyn as you can get a much nicer apartment for your money, plus it’s right on the c train. Do you like to stay in a hotel?
I always stay in a hotel yes. I’d be wary of apartment rentals, as it’s illegal to rent an apartment for under 30 days in New York City. Apartment style hotels are fine (we’re staying in Staybridge Suites near Penn Station on our next visit in October, the rooms have kitchens etc), but things like AirBnB certainly are not ok unless the owner of the apartment is actually staying there with you. I know its popular to do because its cheaper, but I’d make sure that it was all legal before I committed to anything. Sorry to sound stern!
We got our first cat from the RSPCA last year, and were thinking of getting another one from them, but my boyfriend’s sister has to give away their 2 little cats because they are renting and the landlord wants the cats out. It’s a houseshare, and someone is moving out, and the person taking her room is allergic to cats so they have to either find somewhere else quickly, or give up the cats.
Thanks Kenni – I’ll definitely check that place out and look into the legallities of it – the one we were looking at, the owner does live upstairs.
Aw, so nice of you to take the cats in!
Oh I forgot to say – two extra cats! How exciting! Are you adopting rescues?
That cat tree does look awesome! I’m thinking of getting one for my cat, where did you get yours?
I went to New York last year and did all the usual must-see’s Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, ground zero, Broadway musical but I love the programme Cake Boss so my lovely boyfriend agreed to take me to New Jersey to visit their bakery! It’s A-M-A-zing! You should go and see it if you’ve ever seen the programme! 🙂

Thanks for the New York tips Annalise! I have a list a mile long of bakeries to visit!
The cat tree was from amazon – it’s one of the most popular ones on there – it was really good value, only £40
I love the cat tree!! He must be having so much fun!
He loves it ! He likes to wrap his body around the posts 🙂
