Happy Friday, friends! This week has been a really cold one for cycling (-5!) and I’m really looking forward to staying in my nice warm cosy bed tomorrow instead!
Last Friday I headed home on the train (It was snowy so I decided not to cycle!) and after I finally got on the train (completely out of breath from running for it) I had a conversation with a lovely young college student. It’s so nice making connections with people unexpectedly! Bonus – she asked me what I did in the city and thought I was at uni – hurrah! Being petite sometimes works for you in the appearing younger stakes.
On Saturday, my parents came to visit us with their border terrier, Murphy! He is…. enthusiastic about life, to say the least (as well as licking you and eating your socks). Erin popped over with Finley too so he could meet the pup, but Finley was rightly wary of getting too close to Murphy!
Bella also wasn’t a fan – it was the first time she’s ever seen a dog, and she froze and then turned sideways and puffed herself up to at least twice the size to face him (don’t worry – she was up on a table, he was on a lead and she had an escape route). As soon as the coast was clear, she bolted for the safety of upstairs!
Later on we headed to The Poppy and Pint in West Bridgford for lunch and drinks. The food there is typical pub grub, but quite nice, and it was packed ahead of the Nottingham forest match, with lots of dogs around in the dog friendly area!
We also played cards before they left (a seven round rummy style game called blocks and runs!) and I won!
My parents brought my new toy with them – a Classic Kitchenaid! I can’t believe I finally have one. It’s a bit beyond belief. It’s this one if you’re interested – KitchenAid K45SS Classic Stand Mixer, White. It is normally around Β£300. I was surprised by just how HEAVY it is (it’s very solidly constructed) and I’m in love with it!
I used it to make some homemade chocolate bourbon biscuits and it really was a dream to use – the butter and sugar were creamed together very well indeed! I can’t wait to use it to make lots and lots of more things for friends and family!
On Tuesday I headed to the circuits class at the new gym I’ve joined. I’m really enjoying pushing myself a bit more and actually felt a bit stronger after my latest class – I didn’t wuss out on the mountain climbers *quite* so quickly!
Cat snaps of the week! We got Milo and Bella some presents from zooplus, including a cardboard cat house with a scratcher inside, and the feather teasers they LOVE (Milo isn’t interested in playing really but he is when the feather teaser is around!).
I also got another exciting delivery this week – 3 kilograms of chocolate! I bought it online here as they’re really good quality, bigger sized chocolate chips (for blog recipes!) and the cost per 100g only works out at 70p which is good considering the supermarket chocolate chips can be up to Β£1.20 (and horrid!).
The dangerous thing is that they’re delicious! I opened the bag of white chocolate chips to see how big they were and I don’t even LIKE white chocolate at all but I have eaten a fair few of them…!
Eve made my nutella cookies heart-shaped – love them!
Tonight I’m off out into Nottingham for the annual Light Night event. It’s a festival which is inspired by ‘white nights’ in cities like Paris and Barcelona, where everyone stays up all night and museums and galleries are open for free. We don’t quite stay up all night (I do need my sleep!), but there’s lots of cool stuff happening around the city.
- Currently reading: just finished ‘Someday, Someday Maybe’ by Lauren Graham who I ADORE! Thought it was pretty standard chick lit fayre though – anyone else read it?
- Currently listening to: nothing new (I badly need to update the music on my iphone) but I’m loving Radio 2 (middle aged, don’t care!)
If you’re thinking of doing some baking this weekend, try these Chocolate Cinnamon rolls (and bring one round to my house?).

P.S. – Monday….
So great that your parents bought you a Classic Kitchen Aid! As you know, I’m not a baker but I would love to own a KitchenAid π They make your kitchen pretty (oh, and I’ve heard they’re great for baking and cooking too π )
Also, I enjoyed ‘Someday Someday Maybe’ too. I’ll agree that it was a typical ‘chick lit’ book but it was still a fun read. Lauren Graham is the best! I hope she writes another book soon.

Thanks Di! They are at least as good for gazing at as for mixing stuff π
Everything on this post looks amazing! That kitchen aid is SO pretty and I need those bourbons with my cuppa now! The Lauren Graham book has been on my to-read list for a while – worth a go? I posted about your peanut butter cups on my blog today – they were so good!

Thanks Emma! I’ll check it out! π The bourbons were so good and SO easy to make, you could definitely do some π
I wouldn’t really recommend the book tbh. I just felt it was typical chick lit where the girl is silly and klutzy while everyone else thinks she’s the best thing since sliced bread but she’s unaware of it.
I’m so envious of your machine! The stuff of dreams for a nomad like me, I think of you when I’m using my super-lightweight Tesco Value hand mixer π
Thanks for the link m’dear, have a great weekend xxx
